Panama. Maylin Martinez lives in a city in the north of her country called Chiriquí. She is a new Success Ambassador and is teaching a community of very poor people who live in the jungle region near her city. This group of mostly young people is dedicated to agriculture and animal husbandry. She decided to teach them because they are always in financial trouble and they were always asking for help.
She decided that it would be important to help them in a better way. She talked to them about the MBS program and they liked the idea, but told her they didn’t have money to pay for the course. They proposed to pay with products that they produced such as bananas, cassava, tropical fruits and even chickens. Maylin thought this was an excellent idea; the first day of the training everyone brought something and this was even useful for everyone to have lunch since most had to walk up to 40 km (25 mi) to get to the meeting place. The course ended after a couple of weeks and everyone is very happy and grateful because they have learned many things that are helping them make better use of their resources and above all, now they understand how important it is to keep records and apply what they have learned to become more self-sufficient.
