Ghana. Elikplimi Abormegah: My wife and I started a voluntary community service to empower underprivileged rural adolescent girls and young women in a vocational skill such as local hand weaving. It has been a free programme for the past 3 years. I didn’t consider it as a business, so basically we kept investing every money made back into the project.
We started with 1 local metal and 3 local wooden looms, and now have a total of 8 local metal looms with over 25 apprentices. This year we have registered 4 of our senior apprentices to take the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) Trade Test. When I read about Interweave Solutions, I saw it as an opportunity to learn something about business so I can teach my girls so they can apply it to their business when we set them up after graduation; we never saw it as a game changer in our personal lives. This course has taught me in particular to understand record keeping, savings, and paying ourselves a wage and more importantly the quality of life experience. I can say the MBS course has actually transformed our business. I am personally grateful to all who worked around the clock to see this through till it got to us. May the Almighty God bless you with life and health, the rest will come as we apply the MBS course knowledge. Thank you.
